“It would have been so much easier to cooperate!” He shrugged, looked back at us. “But pride, venal pride, got the better of you.”

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
First Lines:
First off, I’ve never told this story to anyone. Not the entire thing anyway, and not entirely truthfully.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I found this at a used book sale and grabbed it for nostalgia reasons, then randomly decided to reread it. I’m so glad I did, it’s exactly as quality as I remember it being when I was a kid!
You’re doing so good, I told myself. I’m so proud of you. You just have to get through this. You can go home in fifteen minutes.
I wondered how many women had given themselves the same lecture: the girl who’d held her head up at a dance where her date was paying attention to another classmate; the woman who’d been passed by for promotion at her job; the woman who had listened to a dire diagnosis and yet kept her face together.

Mass Market Paperback, Read of the Month, Walmart Edition, 310 pages
Published April 2010 by Ace
Oh man October just flew by! I swear it feels like nothing at all happened this month… Things were a bit rough emotionally, just because of a tough anniversary, but I got past it as always and things are improving.
I finished 10 books this month! See my favorite and least favorite things here.
I didn’t do quite as well as I would have liked, reading-wise, but that’s just because I fell behind on my goal at the beginning of the year. Looking at this month on it’s own, I did pretty great.
I’ve been blogging pretty consistently this month, hurray! I’ve been doing my usual smattering of ratings and book photography posts, along with First Lines Fridays and Words from Books. And in addition to all that, I made some progress on my liveblog of the House of Night series. Hopefully I can keep it up throughout November, especially since I’m planning to participate in a book photo challenge…

Least Favorite Thing: Every non-homosexual male she encounters instantly wants to bone her like…why? It better be some magical power because otherwise I refuse to accept it as remotely logical.

Favorite Thing: lol Accidental marriage.
Least Favorite Thing: Arlene, I think. That kind of hate just strikes me as worse than all the supernatural stuff that happened, especially given their friendship previously.
I’m like four books from the end of the series! Oh crap!
