First Lines Fridays: November 1, 2019
First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
First Lines:
My sister Cass ran away the morning of my sixteenth birthday. She left my present, wrapped and sitting outside my bedroom door, and stuck a note for my parents under the coffeemaker. None of us heard her leave.

god i feel like nothing has happened in this book at all and im on page 218…
zoey mentions diarrhea like weirdly often…
so they made him important and then killed him the very next scene so obvi hes gonna come back later as a red-marked vamp…
ah aphrodite the….voice of reason….
also how convenient is it that they can just manifest the goddess to explain herself and leave a cryptic clue to push the plot along
this book is stressing me out!
so this book honestly expects me to believe that no one’s going to realize aphrodite is a fake fledgling?
also if neferet is such a good mind reader why hasn’t she discovered stevie rae is back?
and if neferet can’t read her friends minds (watch it be like because of their elemental affinities or something like every kid with powers is just magically immune to mind reading or whatever) then isn’t keeping secrets from them pointless and also exactly what got zoey in trouble with them in the first place???
exCUSE me? what?
This is such a gross thing to say that now I need a break…
