Persuasion by Jane Austen: Week 1

Lee is on page 25 of 260
Chapter I – III
I met and surpassed my minimum goal of 1 chapter this week, yay! I actually managed to slog through the first 3 chapters. Though, I think it might have been made easier by the fact that I have read those three chapters several times before. I am officially at the point of the book where I usually give up on Persuasion and go on to reading something less irritating.
I deeply hate Anne’s father… I was literally groaning aloud to myself as he ranted about navy men!
In this post I explained my plan to finally work my way through Jane Austen’s Persuasion (the only book of hers I don’t like at all).
At the end of each week, either Friday or Saturday, I will post an update of my progress and any thoughts, should I have them.

Well, Alys is a better person than I am. I’d have been chowing down on delicious souls by now!
I’m not sure, but I feel like I’m not supposed to be identifying with the twins as much as I am… Oops!

Update: Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Goodness gracious! I had forgotten how Marianne acts like Colonel Brandon is 190 instead of just 35!
Always a pleasure to watch a master at work…
I know I shouldn’t enjoy it so much, but I am always ridiculously impressed with how deftly Mrs. John Dashwood manipulates her husband.

I think one of my favorite things in the novel that gets missed out in the screen adaptations is how Mr. Bennet thought to himself, “Wow, this Collins kid seems like a canoe full of douches, better invite him to stay with my family ASAP!” and then spends the whole time either wishing Collins would shut up or entertaining himself with Collins’ douchebaggery and everyone else’s suffering of it.
Update: The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
Mech-Heads Approach! (Skinned by Robin Wasserman)
Your friends are embarrassing, Lia. (Skinned by Robin Wasserman)

I find myself frustrated that Lia keeps trying to be friends with these obvious losers. But more than that, I’m embarrassed for her that she was ever friends with these people pre-accident!
I’m also completely done with “Zo Zo”. Seriously. And the boyfriend gets more annoying as time goes on. (Actually, the more Lia recalls, the less I think they had a good relationship pre-accident anyway.)
I’m just going to sit back and wait for her to start being friends with Auden like she’s obviously meant to do.
