Chapter IV
That was a long seven pages…. It barely held my attention at all. I want to care, but I just don’t. I don’t even like anyone in this book. If this had been my first Austen novel I’d have never read another or discovered how amazing she was.
In this post I explained my plan to finally work my way through Jane Austen’s Persuasion (the only book of hers I don’t like at all).
At the end of each week, either Friday or Saturday, I will post an update of my progress and any thoughts, should I have them.
Just curious–why don’t you like Persuasion? I read it years ago, but I thought it was one of her stronger works. I’ll have to reread it sometime and see if I still think that.

Honestly I don’t know for sure because I love everything else she’s written! It makes no sense that I wouldn’t love Persuasion too, and yet, I tried to read it no less than 7 times and never gotten more than a few chapters in. I find it boring and I hate all the characters. But it also really bugs me that I find it boring and hate all the characters and I can’t finish it… Which is why I decided to read a chapter a week so I can finally have it done, and also in the hopes that at some point I will start to enjoy myself (I actually enjoyed one whole chapter like a month ago, it was majorly exciting, but it did not last…)
It’s not that it isn’t well written or anything, there’s literally nothing I can find that should make me dislike it so much…

I suppose it’s difficult to know sometimes why we don’t connect with certain characters. At least you have Austen’s other works to enjoy! 😀

I’ve never had anything quite like this circumstance happen to me. I’m still holding out some hope that I’ll start to enjoy it more…
